The Alfo Romeo Disco Volante reminded some observers of a UFO. These sports cars certainly seemed like something from outer space and were even meant to fly -- on the race tracks of Europe.

Though Alfa had pinned its early postwar hopes on the 1900 series of 1950, it also planned a line of larger, deluxe touring cars powered by a new 2995-cc six -- basically the 1900 four with two extra cylinders, the same 82.5-mm bore and a longer 92-mm stroke (versus 88 mm).

The company that became Alfa Romeo was founded as "Darracq Italiana" in 1907 by Cavaliere Ugo Stella, an aristocrat from Milan, in partnership with the French automobile firm of Alexandre Darracq. The firm initially produced Darracq cars in Naples, but after the partnership collapsed Stella and the other Italian co-investors moved production to an idle Darracq factory in the Milan suburb of Portello, and the company was renamed ALFA (Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili). The first non-Darracq car produced by company was the 1910 24 HP (named for the 24 horsepower it produced), designed by Giuseppe Merosi. Merosi would go on to design a series of new ALFA cars with more powerful engines (40-60 HP). ALFA also ventured into motor racing, drivers Franchini and Ronzoni competing in the 1911 Targa Florio with two 24 HP models. However, the onset of World War I halted automobile production at ALFA for three years.

Just 949 `Five Window` 1900 Alfa Romeos were built by Touring between 1951 and 1954. While all the `Five Window` 1900s were built with the lightweight aluminum `Superleggera` body, this early production example is a desirable Series I model with more beautiful detailing (unique door handles and interior details, more attractive roofline, and smaller rear window) than later cars. The earlier cars were also constructed in a more carefully and costly manner- a process which was scaled back as the productions numbers increased.

This example is believed to have been delivered new to Panama were it was purchased by an American Serviceman and brought back to Ventura, California. He sold the car to Chuck Reid and Kerry Kendall, who after doing a restoration, sold it to Jack Crowl, who then sold it to the current owner in the mid 1990s. The current owner has successfully done the California Mille Miglia twice, with event support by respected Alfa Romeo expert Conrad Stevenson. Best described as a matching numbers example with an older, very well kept restoration that remains very sharp. The car is well sorted mechanically, and fit for long distance rallies or tours.

The Alfa Romeo Giulietta (series 750 and 101) was a subcompact automobile manufactured by the Italian car maker Alfa Romeo from 1954 to 1965. The first Giulietta model was a coupé, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint, introduced in late 1954. This was followed by a sedan in spring 1955 and in mid 1955, the open two-seat Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider, featuring convertible bodywork by Pininfarina.

The Alfa Romeo Giulietta used an Alfa Romeo Twin Cam engine of 1290 cc straight-4, with light alloy cylinder block and alloy cylinder head with twin overhead camshafts. The original Alfa Romeo Giulietta engine produced a power output of 53 bhp in the sedan and 80 bhp in the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint. This was to be increased to 100 bhp in later sporting models such as the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint Speciale and the Alfa Romeo Giulietta SZ (Sprint Zagato).

The Lancia Flaminia was a luxury vehicle that was built by Italian car maker Lancia from 1957 to 1970. The vehicle was the company’s flagship car and enjoyed having a number of body styles ranging from the Berlina (the sedan version), the Coupe, the Convertible, the Sport, and the 335 (often referred to as the Presidenziale or Quirinale). All these body styles were built by popular Italian coachbuilders (save for the sedan) during the production run of the vehicle. And because its production was quite limited, with only a total of 12,633 units sold in 13 years, the Lancia Flaminia has become one of the most sought after vehicles among car collectors everywhere

The Alfa Romeo 158/159, also known as the Alfetta (Little Alfa in Italian), is one of the most successful racing cars ever produced. The Alfa Romeo 158 and its derivative, the 159, took 47 wins from 54 Grands Prix entered. It was originally developed for the pre-World War II voiturette formula (1937) and has a 1.5 litre straight-8 supercharged engine. Following World War II, the car was eligible for the new Formula One introduced in 1947. In the hands of drivers such as Nino Farina, Juan-Manuel Fangio and Luigi Fagioli, it dominated the first two seasons of the Formula One World Championship.The first version of this successful racing car, the Alfa Romeo 158, was made during 1937/1938. The main responsibility for engineering was given to Gioacchino Colombo.

The car's name refers to its 1.5 litre engine and eight cylinders. The voiturette class was for racing cars with 1.5 litre engines, standing in the same relation to the top 'Grand Prix' formula (usually for 3 litre engines) as the GP2 series does to Formula One today. Alfa's 3 litre racing cars in 1938 and 1939 were the Tipo 308, 312 and 316.
